Daughters of Achelous

Post-graduate life: interning and actually working in the industry, I decided it was time to come up with a new collection. An invaluable lesson I learned as a working designer is the importance of salability because that is what matters for a design to move forward. I was inspired by the Sirens in the Odyssey because they were, in a way, ancient femme fatales. I also found the juxtaposition of linen, Kimbay, satin, bamboo lycra, modal, leather to be quite compelling when put together. In terms of silhouette, I was inspired by clean and modern shapes that have a commercial appeal at the same time. The most challenging part of this collection really came down to technique. While the fabrics and trims are beautiful, they definitely were not easy to work with, especially with unusual fabrics such as Kimbay linen, modal, and leather cord because they do not stay together easily. Nevertheless, I was very happy with the outcome, and had the honor as an alumnus of SFSU to show at their Fall fashion show, Revive.
